about
Two days after the war started John Object released "Life", his beautiful and weird music archive that I guess was never meant to see the light of the day. It did because Timur joined the army and "in case I never get to do that when I'm old" put everything out within an hour. I read about it and it broke my heart. The fear of not living to do your life's work was too relatable. But I couldn't listen to it until a year later I was getting ready to play the incredible Queer Ukraine fundraiser Adomas Narkevičius organised at Cell Projects. I listened to the all of the 58 gems but it was the first one, "Honey", that got me chanting and vibing and writing with it. I came up with some lyrics and a week later sang it in London (thank you if you were there, swaying and yelling "John Object!"). Now I decided to finish it. I let the lyrics evolve and go into some shadowy realms. I explore them with my voice with a profound wish for russia's shadows to finally catch up with their barbaric, fanatical owners. Slava Ukraini!
Thank you Timur for letting me sing with your gorgeous teenage track. You are a true inspiration.
Thank you Kinder Album for letting the gorgeous "Ukraine Will Resist" be the cover for this release.
if if
if you want to fight with me
then come
but
how do you want to fight
when your hands are busy
fighting your shadow
you are confused
this is not about me
if if
if you want to fight with me
then come on
but
say
why your shadow
hates you so much
fucker
that it would fuck you up
on the spot
if it could
if if
if you want to fight with me
then come
i'll show you
what a godly shadow I have
what a godly shadow I have
come on
I'll show you
how we love each other
my shadow
loves me
